Our Family Law practice is still accepting assigned counsel cases from Wayne County Family Court. In regards to Housing/Eviction Prevention, please note that different courts and agencies have limited availability during this period. Please reach out to your local Department of Social Services for emergency housing if necessary.

Services:

Landlord/Tenant

• Assists tenants in preventing evictions
• Investigates complaints of housing discrimination (read more about our Fair Housing Enforcement Project here).

Foreclosures 

• Helps low-income homeowners facing foreclosure to keep their homes

Consumer

• Provides advice and legal help to people dealing with issues related to debt collection, credit reports, consumer scams, student loans, vehicle repossession, identity theft, and bankruptcy (read more about our Consumer law project here)

Family Law issues for Survivors of Domestic Violence

• Provides holistic legal assistance to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault with civil legal needs related to the abuse and/or crime 

Education

• Assists children/caretakers in obtaining the services they need from the school system
• Assists with student loan issues (read more about our EDCAP project here)

SSI/SSD

• Provides representation to clients who have been denied Social Security Disability (SSD) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits (read more about our DAP project here)

Elder Law

• Provides civil legal services through Office for the Aging referrals (read more about our Seniors Project here)

Public Benefits

• On a limited basis, can assist with SNAP, WIC, or Unemployment Insurance Benefit denials

Health Law

• Assists individuals with enrolling in and navigating managed care plans that cover long term care services, including home care services (read more about our ICAN project here)
• Helps individuals and families enroll in health insurance on the New York State of Health (NYSOH) Marketplace (read more about our Navigator Project here)
• Helps answer questions and resolve post-enrollment health insurance issues for individuals and families (read more about our CHA project here)

The only way to be sure about whether we can help you is to call our office. Because our funding is limited, we are always seeking new grants to fund our services to low-income people.  Sometimes, we get new grants that allow us to offer new services. Sometimes, grants end that once paid for us to do special kinds of legal work.
