What is spousal support or maintenance?
One of the skills I’ve learned as an Equal Justice Works Veterans Legal Corp Fellow is the skill of patience—a skill that is particularly in short supply in this instantaneous world. Similar to the glacial pace of litigation in the Court system, an advocate practicing before the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) must hunker down for excruciatingly long storm of denials, appeals, waiting, waiting, and more waiting. Learning how to be patient—and being honest and frank with your Veteran clients about the length of time it will take to receive a decision from VA—is crucial.

What Is A Home Mortgage?
A home mortgage is a debt secured against your house. If you do not make the payments required by your mortgage agreement, your lender can try to take your home. The lender does this by starting a foreclosure action against you in Supreme Court.
In March of 2017, over 100,000 people in Monroe County lost power for multiple days (and in some cases almost a week) due to a wind storm. Without power, many households lost hundreds of dollars in spoiled food purchased using their SNAP benefits. Our staff members made it their mission to spread the word on how to apply for SNAP replacement so that spoiled food could be replaced during the crisis and in the aftermath.
