Why Your Contribution Matters

Access to free civil legal services is an essential community asset. Unlike in criminal court cases, individuals who find themselves involved in civil court cases are not entitled to a lawyer. This exacerbates inequality and is why civil legal aid is so vital to the community.

Giving to LawNY combats inequality in our communities.

For 52 years, LawNY® has provided quality legal representation to the most vulnerable and underserved subpopulations including veterans, seniors, formerly incarcerated individuals reentering society, refugees, victims of crime, survivors of sexual assault and/or domestic violence, members of the LBGTQ+ community, and those living with HIV/AIDS.

We do not charge clients for our services. We rely on federal, state and, local government grants, the United Way, private foundations and individual donations. The need for legal services in our communities is still great, and many of our community members face barriers to access to justice. Civil legal services programs like LawNY® have the capacity to meet only about 20% of the legal needs of our client population.

Transparency and accountability are important to us with your donation.
