Staff Paralegal- Jamestown



The Jamestown office of Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc.® (LawNY®) has an immediate opening for a full-time Staff Paralegal.   The paralegal will work approximately half-time with our Family Law unit.  The balance of their time will be related but not limited to bankruptcy, foreclosure, landlord-tenant and public benefits.  The paralegal will work under the supervision of project staff attorneys providing civil legal help for victims in the above related legal issues.  Duties will include scheduling appointments, interviewing and maintaining contact with clients, conducting factual investigations, conducting legal research, drafting correspondence and pleadings, attending meetings and court appearances, assisting with grant reporting and maintaining time records. 

Program: LawNY®is a not-for-profit law firm which increases access to justice through excellent legal representation, advocacy and service.   LawNY®  provides civil legal services to low-income clients in a 14-county area of Western New York, including the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions. Our staff work closing across areas of specialization to bring a holistic approach to addressing law related issues affecting our clients and communities.  The Jamestown office serves residents of Chautauqua County. 

Requirements:  An associate’s degree and/or a combination of education and relevant work experience is required. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to working with and serving low-income individuals.  Excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, strong written and oral communication skills, an ability to work independently and strong computer skills are necessary.  Fluency in Spanish is an asset, however, is not required.

Salary: Salary is dependent on experience and based on a pay scale with annual increments. The entry level salary for a Paralegal is $30,000 increasing to $35,000 for a paralegal with five years’ experience. This position is considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
