Part Time LawHelpNY Coordinator



Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc.® (LawNY®) has an immediate opening for a part-time Coordinator who would like to join a statewide team that is supporting the legal aid website, The LawHelpNY website is an online tool for helping low income New Yorkers solve their legal problems. LawHelpNY is committed to providing information that is user-friendly, in English, Spanish, and other languages, in order to help low-income and other vulnerable New Yorkers achieve equal access to justice.


The part-time Coordinator will be housed in one of LawNY®’s seven regional offices, which are located in Rochester, Geneva, Ithaca, Elmira, Bath, Olean and Jamestown. Placement is negotiable based on the needs of the candidate and LawNY®.


LawNY®is a not-for-profit law firm which provides civil legal services to low-income clients in a fourteen-county region in the Finger Lakes and western New York State. Our law firm staff of nearly 160 people includes attorneys, paralegals, and a legal support team who work closely across areas of specialization to bring a holistic approach to addressing law related issues affecting our clients and our communities.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain and enhance a database of intake policies and procedures for over 600 legal services organizations and projects throughout New York State;
  • Increase awareness of LawHelpNY through outreach to agencies and legal service projects throughout the state, including representing the organization at conferences and meetings;
  • Provide website maintenance including fixing broken links, uploading new content, removing outdated content;
  • Provide blog and social media account maintenance including uploading posts;
  • Write blog posts about civil legal issues affecting residents of western and upstate New York.
  • Create and update promotional materials.



Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (or Associates degree and at least two years equivalent experience), as well as a demonstrated commitment of service to the poor. The position involves working as a member of a statewide team of attorneys, paralegals, and other human service professionals dedicated to serving the legal needs of low-income, vulnerable and limited English proficient persons throughout New York State. 

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently are requirements. Demonstrated strong writing skills are also required. Consideration will be given to prior experience website database with outreach and community education programs and/or working with low-income households, community groups or similar experiences. While computer programming skills are not required, computer proficiency is a must, and social networking skills a plus. Fluent Spanish skills; speaking, reading and writing is highly desirable.


Salary: The ideal candidate will be available to work part-time, between 18 and 21 hours per week. Salary is dependent on experience. The selected candidate will be paid as a Paralegal on the LawNY® salary scale. At 21 hours per week, the salary for a Paralegal who is credited with two years of experience would be $16,680 per year. The initial salary will increase annually based upon LawNY®’s salary scale.
