Spanish Translation & Interpretation Assistance Team (STIAT) The Spanish Translation and Interpretation Assistance Team (STIAT) is a team of law student volunteers, fluent in Spanish, who provide translation and interpretation assistance to public interest law offices affiliated with LSAP. Volunteers will participate in phone conferences with public interest attorneys to assist them in communicating with their Spanish-speaking clients. They will also translate legal documents, brochures, and various other written materials into Spanish. STIAT members can select translation and interpretation opportunities based on their availability. Throughout the semester, LSAP will e-mail translation and interpretation requests to the STIAT membership. Then, STIAT members will respond if they would like to volunteer for that specific opportunity. Each STIAT member is expected to complete one project per semester. Once a student has accepted a project, they are responsible for completing it and complying with any deadlines established by the attorney requesting the information. STIAT gives students an opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to client intake and interviewing. Additionally, students will make connections with public interest attorneys and gain knowledge in unfamiliar areas of the law. Most importantly, students will provide a valuable service to public interest law offices and their Spanish-speaking clients. Past STIAT projects have included:
